The Mini successors from 1959 until 2000, is produced by the British Motor Corporation (BMC) as a small car. Enjoyed similar popularity in North America, the Mini was voted the second most influential car of the 20th Century; behind the Ford Model T in 1999 the vehicle is in some ways considered the British equivalent to its German contemporary, the Volkswagen Beetle.

The Mini Cooper and Cooper "S" were sportier versions from 1964 through to 1967 successful as rally cars winning the Monte Carlo Rally four times, while in 1966 along with six other British entrants, Mini was disqualified after the finish. Until Mini became a marque in its own right in 1969, it was marketed under the Austin and Morris names and in the 1980s again marketed under the Austin name. The Mini was arguably the star of the 1969 film The Italian Job which was remade in 2003 using the new MINI. The 'Mini' name reverted to BMW ownership after the last of the Mini production had been sold. Including "Car of the Century", "Number One Classic Car of All Time" and "European Car of the Century" in a worldwide Internet poll in 1999, Mini has won many awards perhaps the most notable over the years.
