The Ford Mustang is an automobile manufactured by the Ford Motor Company which was initially based on the Ford Falcon. On March 9, 1964 in Dearborn, Michigan, Production began and at the New York World's Fair on April 17, 1964, the car was introduced to the public. Since the Model A, the Mustang was Ford's most successful launch and next to the F-Series pickup truck line, Ford's second oldest nameplate currently in production.

Suitability as Name for the Special Car, Mustang by a wide margin came out on top under the heading. With long hoods and short rear decks, Mustang created the sports car-like coupes and the "pony car" class of American automobile which also inspired coupes such as the Toyota Celica and Ford Capri. After four decades of development and revision, Mustang is the only original pony car that has remained in production without interruption although some other pony cars have seen a revival. For excellence in American design, the 1965 Mustang won the “Tiffany Gold Medal”, the first automobile ever to do so and in 1974 and 1994 also won the Motor Trend Car of the Year award. In 1983, 1987, 1988, 2005, and 2006, the Mustang was on the Car and Driver Ten Best list and in 2005 it was named Canadian Car of the Year when runner-up to the Chrysler 300 for the North American Car of the Year award.
