Maybach-Motorenbau GmbH was founded in 1909 as a German luxury car manufacturer by Wilhelm Maybach. Until 1918, the company itself known as "Luftfahrzeug-Motoreinbau GmbH" (literally "Aircraft Engine Installation Company") and was originally a subsidiary of Luftschiffbau Zeppelin GmbH. The brand is based in Stuttgart owned by Daimler AG today.

Through the involvement of Wilhelm Maybach, the company has historic roots and originally developed and manufactured diesel / gas engines for Zeppelins. During World War I, Maybach Mb.IVa was used in aircraft and airships. In 1919 at the Berlin Motor Show, with the first production model which introduced two years later, the company first built an experimental car and continued to build heavy duty diesel engines for marine and rail purposes. In World War II, by producing the engines for the formidable Panther and Tiger tanks many mobile artilleries and tanks, Maybach contributed to the German fascist war effort. The company was renamed into MTU Friedrichshafen some after 20 years later. Maybach creates luxury cars as exclusive as expensive.
