Koenigsegg Automotive AB, an announced buyer of Saab Automobile from General Motors, is a Swedish manufacturer of high-performance sports cars based in Ängelholm. In 1996, a Koenigsegg CC prototype was first publicized and at the 2000 Paris Motor Show, the full carbon fiber production prototype was finally unveiled. With a premiere at the Seoul Auto Show, Koenigsegg was established in Asia and the new CCR was unveiled at the Geneva Auto Show in 2004. The Koenigsegg CCR holds the fastest speeding ticket in the United States reported during review of television program Top Gear.

Koenigsegg introduced a new model, the CCX in 2006, created in order to meet world-wide regulations for road use which never before had such a big undertaking been executed by an independent manufacturer. To pass the new European pedestrian impact tests, Koenigsegg is the only supercar and low-volume manufacturer. The CCXR is a bioflexfuel version of the CCX, which premiered the world's first "green" supercar in production in 2007. Koenigsegg unveiled plans to release a four-seat, two-door "solar electric" sports car called the Quant in 2009.
